Hunter Guidelines for an enjoyable hunt:

Be in good physical shape.
Be sure to bring any medication that you take on a regular basis. Make your guide aware of any medical conditions you may have prior to your hunt.
Rifles: should be sighted in for 2 1/2 inches at a hundred yards and capable of shooting 300 yards.
Muzzle loaders: Practice at 100 yards, and know how high to aim at 200 yards.
Archery: Traditional or Compound bow w/ fixed blade broadheads. Average shot 20 to 30 yards. Practice at long ranges and it will make you deadly out to 40 yards!
Shoes and Clothing: Very quiet and warm. Shoes should offer good ankle support and comfort while traversing hilly and uneven terrain.
Hunters will not be allowed hearing protection; unless the ear devices enhance your hearing. The most critical time to hear instruction from your guide is the last 10 minutes leading up to the shot.

	Archery	Oct. 11, 2008 - Jan. 19, 2009

Proposal for Elk Hunting Units (EHUs)

Divide the 16-county restoration zone into 6 EHUs.

Multi-county areas with the boundaries being county lines and paved roads.

Each EHU allocated a percentage of the total number of tags.

Allocation based on FLIR results, harvest numbers, roadkill history, availability of public access, and overall elk densities and numbers.

Season dates and weapons restrictions will be the same for all units.

Maximizes hunter opportunity & simplifies the regulation & hunting guide.

2^nd draw for EHU choices.

After hunters are notified via certified letter that they have been drawn for 1 of the 400 tags, they will be given instructions on how to enter the 2^nd drawing for an EHU.

Timeline:

2007

Dec 1 – entries begin for elk lottery

2008

April 30 – deadline to enter draw

May 21 – draw conducted and results posted online by the 21^st

June 8 – all 400 hunters should have received notification letters or otherwise learned they’ve been drawn.

July 8 – deadline for hunters to make their EHU choices; those who have not will be randomly assigned.

July 25 – EHU draw conducted no later than 7/25.

Oct 4 – opening day of bull gun season

Oct 11 – opening day of cow archery
